Where am I? The last thing I remember is… something hitting me…a.. car?? He suddenly panicked. Kari was about to get hit by a car! Wait a minute. Why do I hurt all over? Did…did I get hit by the car? Then that must mean… I’m in a hospital probably… and Kari’s okay! He cheered silently to himself. He opened his eyes and looked around. It looked like a hospital room and all his friends were there! Well, almost everyone Sora and Tai were missing… Davis was sitting in a chair on one side of his bed, his head bowed and quietly snoring. Behind him on a couch were Izzy, Joe, T.K, Cody, and Yolei. They all looked as if they were falling asleep, except T.K. and Yolei, who seemed to be whispering quietly to each other. Matt and Mimi were standing by the door, Matt with his arm around Mimi’s shoulders. He turned his head quickly to look at the other side of him and felt a shooting pain rocketing through his head. He groaned loudly. Instantly, he felt 11 people rush to his side. He heard “Ken!” and “oh my god you’re awake!” as he looked around his bed, he saw that his parents were also there, his mom sobbing hysterically and thanking god, his dad also crying. And… Kari. She was standing next to Davis, staring at him with such an expression of pain that it broke his heart to look at her. She looked beautiful as always, with light wavy brown hair, soft skin, and eyes that always gave Ken a feeling of comfort whenever they gazed deep into his own eyes. Even though there were many loved ones around his bed, all Ken longed for was hold her in his arms.
“How long have I been here?” he croaked. Mimi spoke up. “A few hours. The doctor says you should be out of here at the most, 2 months.” Ken sighed. He would be in the hospital for all of Kari, Tai and Mimi’s Christmas visit.
While everyone was expressing their worries and telling what had happened since the accident, Tai and Sora rushed in. Sora gasped. “Ken!” both Tai and Sora burst out. They rushed up to where everyone was gathered and joined in. A few minutes later, the doctor came in with a nurse. “Well, I see that all of you are reunited again,” he said. “I’m sorry for the interruption but I need to Ken needs his medication. Also, Ken and I need to have a talk, so if all except the parents and perhaps two to three closest friends could stay, probably for the best that not all of you crowd in here, since Ken needs his rest…” Everyone rushed out, muttering their apologies, except Davis and Kari.
The doctor pulled up a chair close to Ken’s bed and pulled out a clip board. He checked Ken’s pupils and wrote some stuff on his clipboard as the nurse took his blood pressure.“Well Ken, I hope you realize that you had quite a close call there.” Ken nodded, and felt a ringing pain rip through his skull. He clutched his head with his uninjured hand. “Careful there! You have a nasty concussion there. I think that you should take it easy from now on.” The doctor said gently. Ken started to nod, then remembered and said “yes” quietly. “As I was saying, the estimated time of recovery is 2 months, at the most, how soon you get to get out of the hospital depends on your efforts to recover. It can be as less as 6 weeks if you’re careful.” Ken felt a desperate sadness. Even by that time, Kari would be gone. “Now, I’ll need to talk with your parents in detail, so if you’ll please step into my office..” and with that, the doctor and Ken’s parents were gone. As soon as they were out, Ken looked at Davis and Kari. They looked so lost that he tried to grin at them, to assure them he was okay. He managed a tiny smile. They smiled back at him in return.
The nurse smiled at all of them. “Hi Ken, I’ll be your regular nurse during your stay here, my name is Ms. Xyong but you can call me Alle. I’m gonna be giving you a shot and some painkillers right now.” She placed a prepared needle and some pills from her tray on to his table. She lifted up his sleeve. Kari turned away as and winced. After Alle pulled down his sleeve, she gave him the painillers. There were quite a lot of them, and it was no wonder, considering all the injuries he had. “All right, that’s it, I’ll see you in a few hours. “ with that, she left the room.
