Kari stared at the blank pages of her journal. It was a present from her friends in America. She had no idea what to write first, since a million thoughts were going on in her brain. She looked at the seat next to her. Mimi was deeply absorbed in a fashion magazine. Next to Mimi was a loudly snoring Tai. Kari sighed. She looks out the window. The clouds looked beautiful. She started daydreaming about meeting all her old friends again. It would feel so good to see the again. T.K , Davis, Sora, Yolei, Cody, Matt, Joe, Izzy, and…..Ken. She smiled to herself.
“What’s up with you?” said Mimi, who was sitting next to her. “What?” Kari said, surprised. “I said, what’s up with you?” said Mimi. “Oh… I’m just thinking.” Kari said, hoping to shake her off so that she wouldn’t have to tell the biggest blabbermouth in the world her thoughts. “About?” said Mimi absentmindedly flipping through a magazine. “About our old friends.” At that response, Mimi’s head snapped up and grinned mischieviously. “About Ken?” she said. Darn. Can that girl read minds? “Um… yeah…” she mumbled. Mimi grinned. Kari cringed and prepared for a long “lecture” on how Mimi thought Ken and her were the cutest couple in the world, except her and Matt, and the reasons why they weren’t going out. But Mimi just ducked back to her magazine instead. Hmm. Guess she’s tired from the long flight.
Kari flipped off the cap of her favorite pen. Davis had given it to her over a year ago before her and Tai left for America with their parents. It was a pen monogrammed with her initials. It was really special to her. Her thoughts wandered to the other gifts her friends had given to her when they learned she was moving away. A giant stuffed animal that said “I love you” from T.K, a burned CD of all her favorite songs from Matt, a book of poems written personally by Sora, a BEST FRIENDS FOREVER bracelet from Yolei, a very useful, cute holder for her camera from Cody, a copy of her FAVORITE book from Izzy and Joe, and a bouquet of baby pink roses and white sweater from Ken which Yolei had helped him "pick out", but Kari suspected she "forced" him to get since it didn’t seem like the kind of gift Ken would buy. She was wearing it right now. It was a kind of loose, snowy white longsleeve turtleneck, made of a soft, fuzzy material that made everyone want to hug the wearer.
She touched her pen to the pages of her journal. She thought for a moment and started to write:
Dear journal,
I’m finally on the plane back to Japan. It’s been a really long flight so I guess (and hope) we’re almost there. I’m really excited about seeing all my old friends again. Especially Ken. I know we’ve had a crush on each other before I left, but I haven’t seen him for so long. Does he still feel the same way? I mean, we only saw each other once, during this whole one and a half years. And if he does, what do I do about T.K.? I think he still has feelings for me. I don’t want either of them to get hurt….
The first thing I’m gonna do when I get back is give everyone a hug. I mean everyone (even Joe) ^.^ I know that Mimi and Tai will be so happy to see Matt and Sora again. Tee hee. Hmm… I wonder how Izzy and Yolei are doing? Still going out, I hope. Oh, the breakfast is coming. I do feel sort of hungry so this is all for today.
Kari ate a piece of breakfast roll and drank some coffee due to drowsiness. The flight was over in two hours and she wanted to be awake during the landing. She tried hard to keep her eyes open, but soon fell asleep, even with caffeine in her body because she hadn’t slept during the whole flight……
